On Tuesday evening Chris Christie, former Republican governor of New Jersey, announced his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election in the United States. Christie had previously run for the party in the 2016 primary and was defeated by Donald Trump. Christie announced her candidacy during an event in New Hampshire, in which she expressed very critical opinions towards Trump, calling his work a “failure” and accusing him and his family of using the presidency to obtain economic profits ( he cited some big and contested ones investments economies of Saudi Arabia in a fund of Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner).
At the moment the Republicans who have announced their candidacy for the presidency are Trump himself, the governor of Florida Ron DeSantis, his former vice president Mike Pence and now also Christie: the latter is the one with the most critical positions towards Trump, but it is also the most unpopular, according to the main polls carried out so far, which give Trump the lead followed by DeSantis.
