Gaza, inside the Nasser Hospital in the Strip – Corriere TV

The testimony of Rami, a Doctors Without Borders (MSF) nurse from Nasser Hospital in the southern Gaza Strip

The testimony of Rami, a Doctors Without Borders (MSF) nurse at Nasser Hospital: «After the Israeli forces began their operations in Khan Younis, including in the western part of the city where the Nasser Hospital is located, access to hospital is difficult for doctors, nurses, administrative, security and logistics staff. More than 80% of the staff are no longer at the hospital. Sometimes we have departments without staff, without nurses, without doctors, without surgeons. I remember an incident a few days ago in which a patient died in the orthopedics department. The boy had explosive wounds and chest trauma and unfortunately he died because there were no nurses or doctors to assist and monitor him. So far all convoys supplying Nasser Hospital with the necessary resources have been blocked. Surgical teams use the same abdominal gauze, a key element, multiple times on different patients. Right now people here in Nasser survive on just one meal a day and, most of the time, it is incomplete and unhealthy. Working tirelessly, suffering from the enormous shortages of personnel and medical supplies, to which is also added the siege imposed on the Nasser hospital, make the complete collapse of the medical structure inevitable.”

Doctors Without Borders called for ensuring that Nasser Hospital remained functional afterward the beginning of the fighting in Khan Younis. To date, the Nasser hospital is no longer able to handle a large flow of injured people. The hospital is no longer able to provide life-saving medical care after the area where it is located was placed under an evacuation order. The surgical capacity of the Nasser Hospital is now reduced to a minimum and the few medical staff left in the hospital have to deal with very scarce supplies and insufficient to handle large influxes of wounded.
