On the morning of this Friday, January 26, the new president of the Supreme Court of Justice, Gerson Chaverra Castro, referred to the beginning of the voting process to elect the next attorney general of the Nation.

This is the first official statement made by the new president of the high court (elected on Thursday), in which he also stated that he is not active in any political party and that he has built his career from the offices in which he has exercised his career. .

Specifically, regarding the process to elect the replacement of the outgoing prosecutor Francisco Barbosa Delgado, he pointed out that the country must be calm that the Court “is fulfilling and will fulfill its missionary role of electing the next attorney general of the nation of the short list sent by the President of the Republic”.

And he added, “we, as the Supreme Court of Justice, are an autonomous and independent body and our determination will always be adopted based on constitutional guidelines and that will be our north,” said Chaverra Castro.

The magistrate indicated that it would be “absolutely irresponsible to give a date for the election of the prosecutor.”

The president of the Supreme Court specified that the Plenary Chamber, made up of 23 judges, is studying the resumes of the shortlists.

“Within the framework of that, since last Thursday we have carried out the first round of voting in a responsible manner, with rigor in a rational manner and from that I hope, as president, that we can soon reach the consensus necessary to achieve the election,” he said. .

Faced with the possibility of convening extraordinary chambers to carry out the election of the prosecutor, the magistrate indicated that they have not seen the need to convene them, since “we consider that within the framework of our ordinary chambers we can continue the deliberation calmly and harmony like the one that arose yesterday and from that, try to achieve a consensus.”
