When a few days before the release of Kebab Pizza Vol.1which sanctioned Ghali’s “return” (even if defining it that way is reductive) to trap, his participation in Sanremo was announced, many wondered how the two things communicated.
It’s certainly not a stupid or trivial question, it’s strange nowadays not to predict an artist’s moves, in a period in which the paths between mainstream and underground seem to be as parallel as possible.
Yet Ghali’s choice perfectly represents the path he has chosen to build for himself in recent years, and also the song My home represents a perfect synthesis of Ghali’s pop soul that all of Italy has known.
The piece has a social content, with some claims in pure Ghali style, very simple but immediate and effective. There are passages that refer to current events, but in such a way that they can be applied to any type of situation to which, unfortunately, current events have accustomed us: “But, how can you say that everything is normal here / For draw a border / Bomb a hospital with imaginary lines”. If we were to find a song in terms of content that recalls this in the imagination of the career of the artist from Baggio, it would certainly be Cara Italia. However, to that very successful song, Ghali decided to add a twist between the 80s and TheWeekend, as obviously pop in recent years has taught us to accept as normal, as had already happened in another of his hits bigger, or Good Times.
Thus, Ghali demonstrates that he arrives on that stage with a maturity and awareness that also allows him to look back on his path and understand how to approach the stage that he himself defines as the most important in all of Italy.
It is a historical period in which it is not so obvious to impose oneself with messages that have a value which, for some absurd reasons, may be controversial. Ghali decides to gamble his first experience in Sanremo like this, with a message, a song that is an excellent work of pop synthesis and his career. Inside there will also be space for the show, with the alien Rich Ciolino who will reinforce the message that Ghali wants to communicate.
We are therefore sure that Ghali’s song will leave its mark in an event that sees a truly unprecedented number of big names in Italian music competing.
