Austria beat Turkey 6-1 at the end of the March friendly. The goals are provided by Xaver Schlager (2nd), a hat-trick from Michael Gregoritsch (44th, 49th, 59th), Baumgartner (78th) and Entrup (90th + 5) and Hakan Calhanoglu (25th).
Austria scores another lightning goal. The ÖFB team presses early and forces Turkey to make a mistake on the edge of the penalty area. Baumgartner wins the ball and finishes. The Turkish keeper Cakir can only defend the ball in the middle and Xaver Schlager dusts off. Austria leads early again – this time after 103 seconds.
But Turkey is coming back. After 25 minutes and a good phase for the away team, referee Daniele Chiffi points to the spot according to VAR. After a corner, Kevin Danso had his hand on the ball – Calhanoglu safely converted the penalty to equalize 1-1.
Shortly before the break, Gregoritsch puts Austria back in the lead. Seiwald wins the ball on the edge of the penalty area and passes it on to Xaver Schlager, who passes it to Gregoritsch. His shot isn’t particularly sharp, but goalkeeper Cakir still has to reach behind him for the second time.
Gregoritsch puts together a three-pack
Shortly after the restart the bell rings again. With the first corner in the second period, Austria extends its lead. The ball comes well, the Turks completely forget Michael Gregoritsch in the backcourt, who thanks him with a header and makes it 3-1. Another lightning goal from the ÖFB team, there were only 168 seconds between the restart and the goal.
And Ralf Rangnick’s team continues. Laimer falls in the penalty area, but the referee rules it offside. For now, because after an on-field review, the referee points to the point. Gregoritsch steps up and increases the score to 4:1 with his third goal.
Austria outclasses Türkiye
But that’s still not enough for the ÖFB team. At first Turkey celebrates the supposed 4:2, but then shortly afterwards it is 5:1. Posch is placed in the opponent’s penalty area, the Turkish goal is taken back and a penalty is given. Baumgartner scores carefully to make it 5:1.
And it’s still not over. In the 95th minute, substitutes Wimmer and Entrup made it 6:1. Wimmer with a perfect cross and Entrup heads the final score with his first international goal.
