Reiten played from the start for Chelsea, who consolidated their place at the top of their Champions League group in a match against group jumbo Madrid, who even before the match had no chance of promotion.
The Norwegian winger showed himself several times, also in the goalless first half, including with a solid shot on goal and a perfect pass to captain Erin Cuthbert, who was placed at the penalty mark, but was unable to finish in perhaps the best chance of the half.
In the second half, Chelsea finally broke the deadlock after Niamh Charles was brought down just inside the penalty area after 61 minutes of play. Reiten took the penalty and slotted it safely past Mylène Chavas in the Madrid goal.
Seven minutes later, Madrid substitute Athenea Chelsea’s managed to break Chelsea’s dominance and equalize after goalkeeper Hannah Hampton parried a shot from Hayley Raso.
It then took less than two minutes for Chelsea to regain the lead. Captain Cuthbert shot from an acute angle on the right, straight at Madrid goalkeeper Chavas who fumbled the ball into his own goal. It will therefore remain in the statistics as an own goal, not as Cuthbert’s third Champions League goal.
