A few days ago it was included in the elite category from UEFAthe highest possible recognition for an international referee and it is understandable that Guida, Rocchi’s choice for Salernitana-Juventus, would have wanted to celebrate his promotion with a great performance but how did the Campania referee fare yesterday at Arechi?
Guida’s history with the two teams
There were 23 Juve precedents with Guida directing a match: the balance sheet speaks of sixteen Juventus victories, five draws and two defeats. Second time instead that Salernitana crosses Torre Annunziata’s whistle on its path: the only precedent was the match against Atalanta of the last championship which ended with a result of 1-1. Furthermore, Guida also refereed the last Italian derby between Juventus and Inter played at the Allianz Stadium on November 26th and ended in a draw with goals from Vlahovic and Lautaro.
Guida booked 7 players and sent one off
Assisted by assistants Imperiale and Bresmes with Di Marco IV man, Get Valerie and Dionisi at Avar, the referee sent off Maggiore della Salernitana and booked 7 players, 5 of which were from Allegri’s team: Gyomber (S), Maggiore (S), Gatti (J), McKennie (J), Rugani (J ), Vlahovic (J), Rabiot (J). Recovery time: 0′ time, 5′ time
Salernitana-Juventus, the doubtful cases
These are the main slow-motion episodes. In the 1st minute Yildiz immediately dangerous in the area, he goes down following contact with Maggiore but there is nothing for the referee. The VAR confirms. Encore in the 14th minute: another one-on-one from the attacker who beats Maggiore. Weak contact, there are no conditions for a penalty kick. In the 51st minute Vlahovic fell to the ground after a tackle with Gyomber: Guide let it go amidst the protests. In the 53rd minute, Maggiore fouls Rabiot and gets a double yellow card. Clear foul and expulsion.

For Cesari there was a penalty for Juve
Graziano Cesari provides clarity. The former Genoese referee speaks to Pressing, on Italia1, and says: “First Juve protest after 30 seconds. Yildiz escapes and there is contact in the area. Before touching the ball the knee goes on the Juventus player’s right thigh. It is inevitable that Yildiz will lose pace, in my opinion if there had been VAR intervention it is clear that he would have acted in another way. Situation from Var? Absolutely yes”. On Gatti’s warning he explains: “Red? He first touches the ball clearly and then ends up on the opponent. Do you remember Baschirotto expelled? Referees told us it’s yellow, this is very similar. Fair measure.”
Lapidary on the penalty against Vlahovic: “Vlahovic jumps, there is Gyomber’s malice that unbalances him. I I would never have given a penalty”. Finally on the red to Maggiore he concludes: “Maggiore’s second yellow is correct. But a few seconds before there are Rugani’s hands on Simy’s shirt. In my opinion the action should have been stopped there and there wouldn’t have been a second yellow card.” Basically insufficient guidance in Salernitana-Juventus.
