Before entering the new mobile communications standard, the virtual operator, which operates in the Magenta network, surveyed the acceptance of 5G among mobile customers. What was surprising was that almost 40 percent of the mobile phone customers surveyed assumed that they were already using a 5G tariff, says Krammer. A quarter of HoT customers were also convinced of this. In fact, according to the regulatory authority RTR, the penetration of 5G SIM cards was only just limited until the middle of last year 10 percent.

Low willingness to switch due to 5G
“Most people don’t care about mobile technology,” says Krammer. The willingness to change is correspondingly low. With 5G broadband internet via a home router, the results are similar. Here too, HoT starts with a tariff. For just under 30 Euro 5G can be used unlimitedly with a speed of up to 100 Mbit/s.
Last year, according to Krammer, HoT 100.000 Gained customers in Austria. The main reasons for this are: Index adjustments been, says the Ventocom boss. The major mobile operators have price increases of up to 11.5 percent guided. HoT and other discounters have dispensed with this. For this year, Krammer expects the adjustments to take effect again in the spring – annual inflation was 7.8 percent – with further increases.

Tariffs are crucial for switching
Even if only a few want to switch to 5G, the willingness of domestic mobile customers to switch is still high, says Krammer, referring to the market agent survey. The reasons for a change were, in addition to better tariffs (42 percent) mentioned above all unattractive offers from the major mobile operators for existing customers. More than 30 percent are therefore considering changing providers.
