Hermansson had a serious cancer diagnosis and was 49 years old.
– Of all the players I have played with and trained with over the years, Göran Hermansson stands out as one who was truly whole. A wonderful person, family man and teammate, says Sparta coach Sjur Robert Nilsen Sarpsborg Arbeiderblad.
– He gave as much of himself when he came here as one of the stars of the team as he did when he ended his career in Sparta as a fourth-row player. Göran gave everything for the community, no matter what, he continues after the sad news of Hermansson’s passing.
Hermansson was from Sweden and played for the Swedish top clubs Djurgården, Brynäs, Björklöven and Leksand.
In 2005, he chose to move to Sparta and Sarpsborg and to Norwegian ice hockey.
– Göran became very important for our development of the “new” Sparta in the 2000s, says Nilsen.
– This is terribly heavy. All of us in Sparta – and in the hockey community in general – send our warmest condolences to Göran’s family, he concludes to the local newspaper.
Hermansson’s son, Jonathan, plays for both Stjernen and Sparta Sarpsborg.
