High tension, for the second consecutive day, in Israel. A rocket was launched from Gaza over the south of the country, causing no casualties. Immediate Israeli reaction that bombed some positions of Hamas extremists in the Gaza Strip. During the night, violent clashes between Palestinians and Israeli police had occurred at the entrance to the Old City, where tens of thousands of people gathered for night prayers in the al-Aqsa mosque, the third holiest place in Islam.
A hundred people were injured, among them a one-year-old child. The reason for the violent riots across the Holy City and the West Bank is the planned evictions in East Jerusalem. Palestinians complain of new oppression by the Tel Aviv government, despite the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. The possible trigger for new clashes is the upcoming Israeli court ruling on the possibility that the authorities can evict dozens of Palestinians from the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, and give their homes to Jewish settlers.
