The government is putting the purchase of 40,000 tents out to tender, according to government sources. Israel will also complete the elimination of the Hamas brigades in the southern Gaza city of Rafah, Prime Minister Netanyahu said on Tuesday.
According to government sources, Israel wants to buy 40,000 tents to accommodate almost half a million Palestinians ahead of a planned ground offensive in the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip. “I confirm that a tender has been opened that is intended for the Gaza Strip,” a government source told AFP on Tuesday.
A tender for the purchase of 40,000 tents for twelve people each was published on the Israeli Defense Ministry website. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed the upcoming offensive in a video message on Monday, despite international criticism, and said that a date had already been set. According to Israel, the city on the border with Egypt is the last remaining stronghold of the radical Islamic Hamas in the Palestinian territory.
Israel will complete the elimination of the Hamas brigades in the southern Gaza city of Rafah and nothing will prevent it, Prime Minister Netanyahu said on Tuesday. “There is no force in the world that can stop us. There are many forces that are trying to do this, but it will not help because this enemy, after what he did, will never do it again,” Netanyahu said.
Allies warn of offensive in Rafah
Israel’s Western allies, including the United States and Germany, had spoken out against an offensive in Rafah. The city, located on the border with Egypt, is home to more than 1.5 million refugee residents of the Gaza Strip.
Hamas triggered the war on October 7th with its unprecedented attack on Israel. According to Israeli figures, fighters from Hamas, which is classified as a terrorist organization by the EU and the USA, killed around 1,170 people and kidnapped around 250 people as hostages to the Gaza Strip.
In response to the attack, Israel launched a massive military operation in the Gaza Strip. According to Hamas’ latest figures, which cannot be independently verified, more than 33,300 people were killed. (APA/AFP)
