Italian actress Sandra Milo dies

The Italian actress Sandra Milo has died in Rome at the age of 90. This was announced by her family. She was one of the most popular actresses in Italian cinema and a muse of star director Federico Fellini. She gained fame through her role as Carla in the film “Eight and a Half”.

Born in Tunis in 1933, Milo was cousin of the French chansonnier and actor of Italian origin Yves Montand. She studied at the University of Milan and also worked as a model. After being discovered by a film producer, she made a career as an erotic curvy star in Italian and French productions.

The blonde became particularly famous for her role as Carla, the girlfriend of the leading actor Marcello Mastroianni in Federico Fellini’s “Eight and a Half” (1963). For this film and for her performance in Fellini’s “Julia and the Ghosts” (1965) she was awarded the “Nastro d’Argento”, the Italian film journalists’ prize. In 1968 she married her second wife, a Roman surgeon, and then withdrew from the film world until 1979. She later appeared on television in 1985 as a presenter of the show “Piccoli fans”.

Milo hit the gossip pages in the 1980s as the long-time lover of former Prime Minister Bettino Craxi. In the new millennium she was seen primarily on stage, for example in the play “8 Women” in 2006/07. She also appeared frequently in talent shows.
