MOSCOW – Jan Rachinsky’s concern now is to safeguard Memorial’s archives. The NGO founded in 1989 by the Nobel Peace Prize winner Andrei Sakharov preserves the memory of over three million victims of the USSR and the register of political prisoners of contemporary Russia. But as of yesterday, the longest-running Russian human rights organization no longer exists.
