Jürgen Klopp will leave Liverpool at the end of the season. The news came as a surprise in England and the German coach, who has a contract until June 2026, was quick to give an explanation, pointing to the accumulated wear and tear.

“I understand that it’s a shock for a lot of people, but obviously I can explain it – or at least try. I love everything about this club, the city, I love the fans, the team, the staff. But I’m convinced that this is the decision that I must take it. It’s just that I’m, how should I say, running out of energy”, said the coach.

Klopp signed for Liverpool in October 2015 and, since then, has won the Champions League (2019) and led the team to its first Premier League title in 3 years (2019-20). More than enough reasons to have won the admiration and affection of thousands of fans.

The decision, explained the German, had already been communicated to Liverpool management in November. “At the moment there is no problem, of course, but I have known for a long time that one day I would have to announce it. I know that I cannot do this job over and over and over and over again,” he added.

At 56 years old, Klopp continues to enjoy a good sporting moment, with Liverpool at the top of the championship after 21 rounds and in the League Cup final. His CV at Anfield also includes victories in the European Super Cup or the Club World Cup, in addition to the FA Cup in 2021-22.

After the national title in 2020, Liverpool went through ups and downs and last season did not lift any trophy, but the management’s trust in Jürgen Klopp remained firm, something that the coach did not want to fail to praise. “For me it was super important to be able to get the team back on track. When I realized that we had done it, I was able to start thinking about myself again and that was the outcome.”

The coach admits that this announcement, with the season underway and all areas of success open, could be used by rivals to try to destabilize, but he makes an appeal in the opposite direction, that of a reinforced union. “We will make the most of this season and have another reason to smile when we look back in the future.”
