A fire broke out tonight, Sunday 21 January, in the Russian Novatek gas production terminal located in the port of Ust-Luga, St. Petersburg region. The news was confirmed by the Russian agency Tass. The region’s governor reported that the flames caused no casualties and staff had been evacuated. The Russian group Novatek, operator of the site, specified in a statement that “the fire was caused by an external factor”. “The fire is currently localized,” assured the energy group, the main Russian exporter of liquefied natural gas.
