It will be the great sensation of the automobile “transfer market”. Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes’ reference driver, will be very close to moving to Ferrari. According to the specialized publication Autosport.com, the British driver is expected to conclude the agreement with the Italian team by the end of the week.
It is not the first time that Ferrari has shown interest in Hamilton. There have been approaches at other times, but the driver who has seven world titles always understood that Mercedes offered him better conditions. The panorama has changed slightly in the last three seasons, however, with the German constructor being overtaken by Red Bull – in 2023, Hamilton finished in third place in the championship, with less than half the points of the champion, Max Verstappen.
This collapse of Mercedes and the respective approach of Ferrari could now mix up the accounts. It is true that Hamilton has, however, signed a contract with Mercedes for 2024 and 2025, but the doubt remains as to whether the second year will be optional. And this could be an escape route for the Italian team.
The intention is to convince Hamilton to move to Ferrari in 2025, and negotiations between the parties, according to Autosport.com, will be well advanced. Even though none of the teams has yet commented on the topic, it will clearly be one of the issues that will mark the preparation for this season, which starts on March 2, with the Bahrain Grand Prix.
