CULTURE – Sherlock Holmes is not about to retire. Series, films, animated films… Sherlock Holmes has had its share of adaptations. Created by the writer Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in 1887, the famous detective has not finished invading our screens. On Thursday April 11, “Sherlock Holmes” arrives in France in the guise of Lola Dewaere, on TF1 in the first episode of Mademoiselle Holmes.

The series, produced by Frédéric Berthe and François Ryckelynck, takes place in Nantes, far from old 19th century London. The cast includes Lola Dewaere, comedian Tom Villa and Daniel Prévost.

Mademoiselle Holmes, it is the story of Charlie Holmes (Lola Dewaere), descendant of the famous Sherlock Holmes. After an accident, this shy young policewoman embraces the Holmes in her. To support her in her investigations, she can count on Samy (Tom Villa), a trainee forensic pathologist who will be her modern-day Dr. Watson.

Although the series is a free adaptation, connoisseurs of Sherlock Holmes will recognize some references such as the pipe or the violin. The six episodes can be found every Thursday on TF1 at 9:10 p.m. But in addition to the great-granddaughter of Sherlock Holmes, the detective and his world have seen many of their adventures adapted for the screen.

Sherlock Holmes : black magic and action

Robert Downey Jr put his eccentricity at the service of Sherlock Holmes. In 2009, Guy Richie offered his interpretation of the detective with Sherlock Holmes. The film takes place in the middle of the industrial revolution in 19th century England. While Sherlock Holmes managed to convict the killer adept at black magic, Lord Blackwood, the latter resurfaces. Sherlock Holmes must solve this case, while Dr. John Watson creates perfect love with his fiancée Mary.

Here, the director of Snatch entrusts the leading role to the American Robert Downey Jr and makes him a character as skilled with his head as with his fists. At his side Jude Law plays a faithful and endearing Dr. Watson. Rachel McAdams and Kelly Reilly are also in the cast. The two parts of the saga Sherlock Holmes by Guy Ritchie, are available for purchase on Apple TV+ and Amazon Prime Video.

Enola Holmes : a feminist comedy

Real hit on Netflix, the saga Enola Holmes is adapted from the novels by Nancy Springer. It tells the adventures of the bubbly Enola Holmes, youngest of the siblings and little sister of Sherlock Holmes. Enola grew up at the height of the feminist movements of the 19th century, which London tried to contain. At the age of 16, the young detective tries to make a name for herself with the help of a friend, the charming Viscount Tewkesbury.

The star of Stranger Things Millie Bobby Brown plays Enola Holmes. The old Superman, Henry Cavill is Sherlock Holmes. And Helena Bonham Carter (Eudoria Holmes), Louis Partridge (Viscount Tewkesbury) and Sam Claflin (Mycroft Holmes) complete the cast. The two opuses ofEnola Holmes are available on Netflix.

Sherlock : a contemporary story

This Sherlock Holmes version 2.0 was awarded the BAFTA Television Award and nominated for an Emmy. Created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss in 2010, it takes place in our time. Sherlock Holmes evolves in the ultra-connected world of the 21st century, and he perfectly masters its codes. The British detective is a consultant for Scotland Yard. His roommate at 221B Baker Street, Dr. Watson is a former military doctor injured in Afghanistan.

The performance of Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman pays thanks to the famous duo they play. As does Andrew Scott as the legendary Professor Jim Moriarty. The four seasons of Sherlock are available on Disney+ and Netflix.

Elementary : Sherlock Holmes à New York

Sherlock way New York Special Unit. Series Elementary takes place in modern-day New York. Sherlock Holmes is a former drug addict, who uses his talent to help the NYPD solve criminal investigations. He meets Watson, a former surgeon who becomes his sobriety coach and his friend.

In the cast of this detective series, Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu play the couple Holmes and Watson. Alongside them, we find actors Natalie Dormer (Jamie Moriarty), and Rhys Ifans (Mycroft). The seven seasons ofElementary can be found for free on 6play.

Holmes and Watson : a satire of the original work

With the movie Holmes and Watson, Ethan Cohen transforms the detective’s life into a crazy comedy. The story begins with the meeting of the two friends. Their friendship begins with Watson’s failed suicide, while Sherlock is cultivating his vegetable garden. The duo will then be summoned by the Queen of England, to try to catch the infamous criminal prankster James Moriarty.

In the cast of this detective comedy, Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly are Holmes and Watson. And Ralph Fiennes lends his Machiavellian smile to the character of Moriarty. The film Holmes and Watson is available on Netflix.
