The Federal Trade Commission has even filed a complaint against Amazon for alleged monopolistic practices that burden sellers with additional costs for logistics and advertising services.
Amazon claims to have a “zero tolerance” policy against fraudulent returns and invests in technology and teams to detect and prevent fraud. However, many merchants argue that these measures are not effective enough, as they struggle to get full refunds for lost merchandise. This tension has strained the relationship between Amazon and its independent sellers, especially with the rise of competing e-commerce platforms like TikTok and Temu.
Founder Jeff Bezos has historically prioritized customer satisfaction in the returns process, relying on Amazon’s advanced systems for fraud detection.
