LONDON. A national humiliation, indeed a global one. This is how associations and local authorities define Liverpool’s global downgrading: its marvelous Victorian Docks, the former docks of the largest port in imperial England in the 19th century, are no longer a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is because, according to the United Nations agency, “the site has been defaced with irreversible constructions and interventions, which have ruined its authenticity”.
