Mauricio Souza said he was proud of Madura United’s performance against Persita. Even though they were left behind, Hugo Gomes and his colleagues were able to show a never-give-up mentality so they succeeded in winning three points.

“Our team was behind, but was able to improve its score. This proves that our team has great strength,” said the Brazilian coach after the match.

Mauricio Souza realized that this victory was not achieved easily. Madura United had to work hard to get full points at home.

Based on New Indonesia League (LIB) statistics, Madura United recorded a total of 9 shots, of which 3 were on goal. Meanwhile, Persita recorded 21 shots and 8 of them were on target.

“We are playing against a strong team. And, Persita also has good players,” he continued.

Despite winning, Mauricio believes there are still several minor notes regarding his team’s performance. Especially regarding the defense line.

“We made a lot of mistakes in the defensive sector. We will correct this in the next match,” said Mauricio Souza.

Madura United captain, Fachruddin Ariyanto, also conveyed a similar statement. He is grateful that his team was able to get three points, so the opportunity to break into the top four is still wide open.

“We are grateful for this result, the match was not easy. We were playing against a team that wants to fight to get out of relegation. Of course it was very tough,” said Fachruddin.

“But all my friends are willing to fight until the last minute and thank God, with this result our chances of qualifying for the top four are still wide open,” he concluded.

Now, Madura United is in fifth place in the standings. They collected 45 points from 28 matches. Madura United’s number of points is the same as that achieved by Bali United, which is in fourth position.
