Ex-national player Mesut Özil would have liked to play for Italy’s record champions Juventus during his career. The 2014 world champion revealed this in a post on X.
Özil posted a picture that shows him looking at a mural that shows himself in the kit of his former clubs Schalke 04, Werder Bremen and Real Madrid. Özil is wearing a Juventus jersey, flocked with his name and the number ’10’ on the back.
The 35-year-old wrote: “Proud of my career and all the great clubs I had the privilege of playing for. Only one club was missing: my Italian love Juventus.”
Özil tagged the official accounts of Schalke, Werder, Real, Arsenal and Fenerbahce in his post. However, he did not name his last employer, Basaksehir.
Özil comes from FC Schalke’s youth ranks and moved to Bremen at the beginning of 2008 for a fee of five million euros. After the 2010 World Cup, Real Madrid brought in the playmaker for 18 million euros, only to sell him to Arsenal three years later for 47 million euros.
Seven and a half years in London followed before Özil ended his career at Fenerbahce and Basaksehir. In March 2023 he announced his resignation.
