Yuridia Brito, 46, immediately told the police what had just happened to her. She was clearly the victim. Her man wanted to kill her and her two children who witnessed the scene. But the agents didn’t believe her. The woman was arrested, tried and sentenced to 43 years in prison for aggravated murder. An absurd verdict. The defense presented a lot of evidence in favor of their client, including images from surveillance cameras near the house where the couple lived in which you can see the many acts of violence to which Yuridia was subjected.

Beaten to death, raped for 77 years, she says The country who published the story, the woman had finally decided to leave him last May. She had actually said that before. But he, every time, threatened to get her out of her. “He told her,” remembers her sister now, Cleotilde Brito, “You will only leave with your feet in front, that is, dead.” And he almost succeeded. Yuridia had communicated her final decision to him. The partner, a bodyguard, went out and came back a few hours later completely drunk. He was harassing and violent. He woke her up, beat her savagely for the umpteenth time and left her half stunned on the bed. Then he started smashing the furniture and every object he found in the house.

There was a fire. The neighbors were alarmed by selling the smoke that came out of the house. Yuridia, attracted by the cries coming from outside, recovered. In front of her she had the man, looking for the gun. He found her on the bed where she had left her, grabbed her and before exploding two shots, he told her: “Now I’m going to kill you, you won’t go away.” The woman collapsed but she managed to grab the weapon and fired at her. He was the one who died. She had managed to protect her two children who in the meantime had taken refuge in a terrified closet.

The neighbors rushed in, they saw the scene, the blood everywhere, she wounded, he dead. Yuridia was medicated, she called the police. She told the truth, she admitted killing him. She “she was shocked”, says her sister again, “when she realized what had happened she immediately turned to the nearby police station. The agents arrived, they questioned her, she told everything “. But the minutes with her statements and depositions were not taken into consideration. The recordings of the surveillance cameras are missing from the file, even though they were provided by the investigators. The whole process she went through is full of holes and inconsistencies.

The prosecutor did not even indicate the motive. “He just said that my client deprived a man of life”, insists the lawyer Carrera. “He does not explain the context, the reason and these are the most important things.” Yuridia has to serve more years in prison than he has. “She Now she regrets what happened,” says her sister who visits her every week. “She is glad I saved her two children, that she that man would surely kill her. But she told me that she would rather die than suffer this umpteenth violence ”.
