Migrants: 230 jump over the Melilla barrier and enter Spain

by admin

Over 200 migrants of sub-Saharan origin managed to enter Melilla, an autonomous city in Spanish territory, by crossing the fence that separates the border with Morocco. As reported by El Mundo, this is the third climb over the Melilla fence, about six meters high, in the last ten days. The incident took place at 7 am in the area near the crossing of the Chinese quarter.
Running through various districts of the city and shouting cheers and even “asylum, asylum”, the immigrants, including some wounded, then arrived at the temporary reception center for immigrants. Inside the facility there are already two other groups in quarantine – one of a hundred people, another of about twenty – who managed to climb over the fence last week.
As mentioned, this is the third raid in just two weeks. In May, the onslaught of migrants on the border of the other Spanish enclave, Ceuta, brought Spain and Morocco to the brink of a diplomatic crisis within the broader context of the Western Sahara issue; a crisis triggered by Madrid’s decision to welcome the leader of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, under a false name for a hospitalization, keeping him hidden from his strategic ally.
