Milan and Rennes will meet for the first time in official matches: Milan have overcome four of the last five knockout matches against French opponents in the main European competitions, the last of which saw the Rossoneri eliminate Lyon in the quarter-finals of the 2005/06 Champions League. This will be it Rennes’ fifth match against Italian opposition in the Europa League, after the double group match against Udinese in 2011/12 (1 draw, 1 defeat) and then with Lazio in the 2019/20 edition (1 win, 1 draw).
