Minister of Finance ensures complaints against Customs are followed up

I, together with the head of Customs and Excise at the Soekarno Hatta Customs and Excise office, discussed actual issues that emerged in the public regarding Customs and Excise services.

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati confirmed that complaints regarding a number of issues related to the services of the Director General of Customs and Excise have been followed up.

“I, together with the Customs and Excise leadership at the Soekarno Hatta Customs and Excise office, discussed actual issues that emerged in the public regarding Customs and Excise services,” said Sri Mulyani on the official Instagram account @smindrawati, as quoted in Jakarta, Sunday.

The first case involved a shipment of imported shoes which was subject to an import duty bill of IDR 31 million and a shipment of action figures (robotics) which experienced a similar case.

The Minister of Finance explained that in both cases there were indications that the price notified by the courier service company (PJT) was lower than it should have been (under invoicing). This is the basis for Customs officers making corrections for the purposes of calculating import duties and taxes.

“However, the problem has been resolved because the import duties and taxes have been paid, so the goods have been received by the recipient of the goods,” explained Sri Mulyani.

The next case was the delivery of goods for a special school (SLB) in the form of 20 keyboards which were detained at Customs.

The shipment of goods was previously notified as consignment by PJT on December 18 2022. However, because the processing process was not continued by the person concerned without any information, the consignment was determined to be uncontrolled goods (BTD).

It was only recently discovered that the consignment was a gift item because it was widely discussed on social media platform X. After receiving this information, the Minister of Finance stated that Customs and Excise would assist with a fiscal exemption facility mechanism on behalf of the relevant education agency.

“My directions are clear, I ask Customs and Excise to continue to improve services and be proactive in providing education to the public regarding policies from various ministries/institutions (K/L) which must be implemented by Customs and Excise in accordance with the mandate of the Law (UU), namely as follows: border protection, revenue collector, trade facilitator and industrial assistance,” said the Minister of Finance.

Furthermore, the State Treasurer also asked Customs and Excise to work together with relevant stakeholders so that services and handling of problems in the field can run quickly, precisely and effectively, thereby providing certainty to the public.

“I appreciate and thank all parties who have and continue to help provide input and other support so that the services and performance of Customs and Excise and the Ministry of Finance continue to improve,” concluded Sri Mulyani.
