The 46th edition of the Lucerne City Run took place on Saturday. 13,774 runners registered as participants, almost 2,000 more than last year. 13,052 came to the starting line on Bahnhofsrasse, 12,992 ultimately finished on Kapellplatz.
Pleasant spring temperatures with lots of sunshine attracted 40,000 cheerful spectators to Lucerne’s old town, according to a statement. From the perspective of the police and the medical department, the event took place without any major incidents. Two people had to be hospitalized.
Last year’s winners win the Altstadt Classic
The family category with 6,450 registered participants had already been sold out for 10 days. 2,700 company groups have registered. The selection of route lengths from 1.51 to 7.0 km would offer the ideal length for everyone according to their needs. The student categories were also popular.
Like last year, Roman Renner from Meierskappel won the Old Town Classic over 3,850 kilometers for men in 11:15 minutes. Last year’s winner Amy Leibundgut from Sarnen also won the women’s competition in 13:45 minutes. She clearly relegated the city of Lucerne’s Yanira Büchler to the place of honor.
Double starter Lussy wins the Musegg Classic
The Musegg Classic with a length of 7.0 kilometers was announced for the sixth time. In the men’s category, Florian Lussy – he had to narrowly admit defeat in the Old Town Classic – impressively demonstrated his speed stability. The man from Nidwalden from Stans-Oberdorf won in a time of 21:56 minutes. Teklay Merhawi from Obernau came second. As in the previous year, Manfred Jauch from Altdorf took third place. Elena Eichenberger from Langenthal mastered the women’s field in 24:17 minutes. Gianna Chiara Wohler from Spiez crossed the finish line in second place, while Aisling Ryan from Zug took third place.
Exciting races for the young elite
The crowning finale was the young elite (U18/U20), who had to complete three laps and a total distance of 2,470 kilometers. Gian Baggenstoss from Vers-chez-Perrin mastered the U20 men’s field in a strong time of 7:20 minutes. Hugo Witteveen (Vessy) won the U18 men’s category in 7:23 minutes. Fiona von Flüe won the women’s U18 category. The woman from Cham had a thrilling photo finish with the winner of the women’s U20, Shirin Kerber from Kehrseiten. Both are listed with a winning time of 8:08 minutes.
Participation record in the solidarity run
The traditional solidarity run had a record number of participants with 308 participants. This year, all of the proceeds will benefit the Central Switzerland Cancer League.
The next Lucerne city run will take place on May 3, 2025.
