Migration Colombia, the Department of Social Prosperity and several ministries are analyzing various strategies to improve the mobility conditions of the thousands of migrants who transit from Acandí and its Capurganá district to the border with Panama.

The objective is to improve the conditions for transferring migrants, knowing that by 2024, at least one million people are expected to pass through the Darién, of which 30% would be minors.

Officials from these entities visited Acandí this week and analyzed the possibility of building a cobblestone road in the area, where today there is a path made by the thousands of migrants who have traveled the place with the intention of reaching the United States.

“There is already a path that has been made by the passage of people over nature and that is a path that leads from Acandí via Las Tecas to the border with Panama. This road, in the form it is, means one more impact on the environment of the jungle that surrounds it, that is, garbage is permanently thrown away, the fact that the road is not paved does not guarantee the safe passage of people and that it calls into question his integrity is serious,” said one of the officials.

They also analyzed the construction of docks only for migrants in Turbo and Necoclí.

“But this is seen as a possibility for the State to be the one who, by having places for people to rest, replaces illegal actors who today carry out this activity, taking away from people the possibility of guaranteeing their integrity,” he added. the director of Immigration.
