Mount Marapi experienced another eruption this morning. The eruption was accompanied by the ejection of volcanic ash up to half a kilometer from the top of the peak.
Apart from that, the eruption was also accompanied by quite loud roars and booms.
One of the residents who was at the location described the rumbling and booming as if an airplane was about to take off.

“The rumbling was quite loud. The boom shocked me. It was like a plane was about to take off,” said Mardi Tanjung in the video recording of the money being received. detikNorth Sumatra, Friday (29/3).
Notes at the Marapi Volcano Observation Post (PGA), the eruption occurred at 07.35 WIB.
“An eruption of Mount Marapi, West Sumatra, occurred on March 29 2024 at 07:35 WIB with the height of the ash column observed to be approximately 500 meters above the peak,” said Head of PGA Marapi, Ahmad Rifandi in a written statement.
“The eruption was still ongoing while the report was being prepared,” he said.
He said that the ash column was observed to be gray in color with a thick intensity leaning towards the west. This eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 30.4 mm and a temporary duration of around 1 minute 6 seconds.
Currently Gujung Marapi is at Level III or alert.
“People around Mount Marapi and climbers or visitors and tourists should not enter or carry out activities within the 4.5 km radius area of the eruption center,” he said.
Communities who live around the valleys/streams/banks of rivers that originate at the peak of Mount Marapi are also asked to always be aware of the potential threat of lava which can occur, especially during the rainy season.
