With the “You make the difference” campaign, the city is advertising for people to start working as educational specialists at one of the 29 municipal daycare centers in Münster. On paper there are a total of 2,316 childcare places there, but 143 of them are currently not allocated because there are a lack of educators. “The skilled worker situation is very tense,” is how youth welfare office manager Sabine Trockel describes the situation.

The “You make the difference” campaign now promotes “a responsible, varied job in a city that has a lot to offer: high quality of work, individual development, active participation and a wide range of possible applications with all the advantages of the public service.” After all, the city has already managed to bring 17 young people and 10 skilled workers from Spain. Of course, men are welcome as applicants; their quota in city daycare centers is currently seven percent.

“Since more and more children with special support needs are being admitted to daycare centers, we are looking for inclusion staff from therapeutic professions as lateral entrants in addition to educators,” says Trockel. Specialists in speech therapy, motor therapy, physiotherapy and occupational therapy as well as educational science acquire the relevant qualification in 160 hours during their working hours at the daycare center.
