In the future, beer will be available in wooden cups at the Wankdorf Stadium in Bern. There was already a corresponding pilot test in the summer of 2023. However, YB received a lot of negative feedback at the time.

From the home game against Stade-Lausanne-Ouchy on February 18th, the Wankdorf stadium will gradually switch from plastic to wooden cups. Daniel Marti, responsible for marketing at the Berner Young Boys, explains that they cannot convert the entire stadium at once. “We need infrastructural adjustments such as new trash cans so that we can collect the cups.”

The first attempt to introduce wooden cups failed last summer because the drinks took on a wooden taste. The Brügg-based company Arboloom took the negative feedback as an opportunity to rework the cup and present it to YB fans again.

“We invited 130 fans to a test drink and they confirmed to us that the cup is much better than it was six months ago.” Only around 15% of the fans present subsequently spoke out against the introduction.

After the games, the wooden cups are collected and transported to the Swiss Krono company in Menznau, Lucerne, where they are then cleaned and processed into chipboard.
