Hanan met his wife, Haneen Akira, at Egypt’s famous campus. The two of them decided to get married while still studying at Al Azhar. After completing his studies in 2004 and receiving an Lc degree, he briefly appeared in recitation programs on television before finally returning to Indonesia.
After returning from Egypt, Attaki focused on da’wah, especially for young people. Ustaz Hanan Attaki also joined an Islamic organization. He has officially joined as a member of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) in May 2023.
He pledged himself at the Halal Bihalal 1444 Hijriyah event in front of the General Chair of the East Java Nahdlatul Ulama (PWNU) Regional Management, Marzuki Mustamar, on Thursday, May 11 2023. This pledge was also witnessed by the entire congregation present.
Marzuki Mutamar also read the pledge, followed by Hanan Attaki. After officially becoming part of NU, Hanan Attaki revealed that that night was the best night for him.
“Alhamdulillah, tonight is the best night of my life since my mother gave birth to me. Because for a believer he is born twice, first his body by his biological parents, secondly his spirit is born by his teacher or murshid,” he said, quoting from NU East Java, Wednesday, October 25 2023.
