The new photos of former RAF terrorists Garweg and Staub were found in the apartment of recently arrested ex-terrorist Klette. The police want to increase the search pressure – in the afternoon there was an operation on the A5 in Hesse.

The new photos published in the search for the wanted former RAF terrorists Burkhard Garweg and Ernst-Volker Staub come from the apartment of the ex-terrorist Daniela Klette. This was confirmed by a spokeswoman for the leading Lower Saxony State Criminal Police Office. The 65-year-old Klette was caught in Berlin a week ago. According to the Verden public prosecutor’s office, her apartment is still being investigated.

Some of the alleged photos of Garweg found in the apartment were from the current year, said the LKA spokeswoman. The new photos would have increased the pressure on Garweg to be searched. However, the investigators admitted that the investigators were less close to dust. It was previously unclear how investigators obtained the images.

The current photo is supposed to show Garweg

According to the State Criminal Police Office, the current photo presumably shows Garweg sitting on a sofa between two dogs and eating. According to previous information, it cannot be ruled out that Garweg and Klette had personal contact with each other.

In addition, technically altered images of Garweg were published. “It cannot be ruled out that the accused Burkhard Garweg has changed his appearance,” said an LKA statement. The investigators therefore published different versions of the same photo, in which Garweg can be seen either with a cap, a bald head or glasses.

Search continues

The police had previously searched another apartment in the Friedrichshain district of Berlin in the morning. According to the spokeswoman for the LKA Lower Saxony, there were also no arrests during the operation on Corinthstrasse. The investigators found one person, but none of the people they were looking for were there.

Information of the rbb According to reports, a second apartment in the same district was searched again. An apartment and a trailer site in Berlin-Friedrichshain had already been searched on Sunday.

Trio is said to have committed robberies

The LKA had recently significantly intensified the search for the wanted former RAF members Garweg and Staub. Garweg, Staub and Klette are said to have carried out armed robberies together, including on cash transports, in order to finance their underground life of more than 30 years.

The investigators assume that the two wanted men could also be in Berlin. Klette, who was wanted on six arrest warrants, was arrested in her apartment in Berlin-Kreuzberg and was taken into custody after being identified by fingerprints. The now 65-year-old woman is said to have lived unrecognized in Berlin for years.

Members of the third generation RAF

All three wanted people are said to belong to the third generation of the former left-wing extremist terrorist organization Red Army Faction. During their active time, the then Deutsche Bank boss Alfred Herrhausen (1989) and Treuhand boss Detlev Karsten Rohwedder (1991) were murdered, and Herrhausen’s driver was seriously injured.

For decades, the RAF was the epitome of terror and murder in the west of still divided Germany. In 1998 it declared itself dissolved.
