New York State has confirmed at least five cases of infection with the new mutant virus Omikron strain

New York State Governor Kathy Hochul said on the 2nd that New York State has confirmed at least five cases of infection with the new mutant Omi Keron strain, and they have all recovered.

On the same day, Hochl held a press conference with New York Mayor Baishao to brief on the relevant situation. A 67-year-old woman living in Suffolk County, Long Island, traveled to South Africa in November. When she returned to the United States on November 25, her test result was negative; on November 30, she tested positive again. Her symptoms are mild, mainly headache and cough. The woman was vaccinated, but it is not clear how many shots she received. The other four infected people are all in New York City, two are in Queens, one is in Brooklyn, and the other has no exact address. Their vaccination status is currently unclear. Investigators are tracking more information about the infected person.

Earlier in the day, the Minnesota Department of Health reported the first case of Omi Keron strain infection in the state. The patient went to the Javits Center in New York City to participate in AnimeNYC Animation Festival from November 19 to 21. The American Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) quoted a spokesperson from the Javits Center as saying that during the animation festival, the center requires all participants to present vaccination certificates and wear masks throughout the indoor space. The center is working closely with the government and other partners to learn more about the cases.
