Japanese national team managed to advance to the quarterfinals 2023 Asian Cup. The Blue Samurai escapes after ejecting Bahrain 3-1.
The round of 16 of the Asian Cup brings together Bahrain vs Japan. The match was held at Al Thumama Stadium, Wednesday (31/1/2024) evening WIB.
Japan took the lead in the 31st minute. Ritsu Doan listed his name on the scoreboard.

Doan broke into Bahrain’s goal after taking advantage of Seiya Maikuma’s hard shot which hit the goal post. Japan led 1-0 until halftime.
Nippon doubled their lead four minutes into the second half. This time it was Takefusa Kubo who found the net for Bahrain.
Kubo threw the ball into chaos in the Bahrain defense line. VAR reviewed the goal because it was considered offside, but still approved the goal because no Japanese player passed to Kubo but the ball rolled from the foot of one of the Bahrain players.
Bahrain reduced the deficit in the 64th minute. Japanese goalkeeper, Zion Suzuki, made an error in a corner kick situation.
Zion parried a Bahrain player’s header after a corner kick. Zion tried to block the ball, but it hit the body of Ayase Ueda who was standing on the goal line. The two collided and the ball went into the goal. The goal was declared Ueda’s own goal.
Ayase Ueda made amends eight minutes later. The Japanese bomber scored his team’s third goal with a low shot that went through the legs of Bahrain goalkeeper, Ebrahim Lutfalla.
The score 3-1 for Japan lasted until the final whistle sounded. Samurai Blue won and advanced to the quarterfinals 2023 Asian Cup.
