On March 29, 2024, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. announced its participation in the electric vehicle street race series “ABB FIA Formula E World Championship” to be held in Ariake, Tokyo (qualifying/final race: March 30). The Formula E machine “Nissan e-4ORCE 04” and the Nissan Formula E team garage were opened to the public.

Nissan will participate in Formula E from Season 5 of 2018-2019. Formula E is positioned as one of Nissan’s important programs to develop electrification technology. Participating in the race will: 1) Show the world that Nissan is an expert in electric powertrains, and 2) Promote that EVs not only excel as next-generation mobility, but also have exciting performance. It is said that it has three purposes and significance: 3: It is a testing ground for innovation to refine the performance of electric powertrains and weight reduction technology.

When Nissan first entered Formula E five seasons ago, it had already sold more than 500,000 EV Nissan Leafs worldwide. When the team first entered the race, the aim was to feed back the electrification technology of commercially available models to Formula E, but now the knowledge gained from Formula E is now being utilized in commercially available models. .

The latest Formula E, called “Gen3”, weighs 840 kg including the driver. This is almost half of the leaf. These weight-saving technologies and energy management, which extends the cruising range of EVs such as regenerative braking, are being honed on the Formula E stage.

Ahead of this Tokyo round, Nissan announced ahead of other constructors that it would continue to participate in Formula E until 2030. This will be his 12th consecutive year of participation since his first participation in 2018.

Formula E’s first Tokyo round will be held on a 2.582km public road circuit surrounding Tokyo Big Sight. It consists of 18 corners and 3 straights, with a concentration of tight, difficult, and low-speed corners in the first half. The 10th, 15th and 17th corners will be the overtaking points.

Sascha Fenestraz, a member of the Nissan Formula E team who spent most of his career in Japan, said, “This is the first home race for the Nissan team, so I’m looking forward to the support of the fans.It feels like a home race for me too.” , Oliver Rowland commented, “Following Diriyah, we were also able to get a podium in Sao Paulo. We will keep up this good form and take on the next race.”

The Nissan e-4ORCE 04 that will be participating in the Tokyo round will have a Tokyo-only coloring.
