North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has recently supervised the testing of a new version of the multiple rocket launcher that promises to bring a “strategic change in the country’s capabilities,” according to the Associated Press.
During a military exercise point visit, Kim Jong-un observed the testing of a 240mm multiple rocket launcher that had received a technical upgrade. The state agency KCNA reported that this upgraded launcher will be deployed in Korean People’s Army units as replacement equipment from 2024 to 2026.
Kim Jong-un had previously promised improvements in combat capability with this system, which will allow his troops to hit targets in South Korea, including Seoul. This move is seen as a significant change in the strengthening of the country’s artillery capabilities.
The North Korean regime has been conducting various military tests in recent months, including tests with nuclear warheads for strategic cruise missiles. Despite facing sanctions from the international community, Pyongyang continues to develop and strengthen its military capabilities.
In response to North Korea’s actions, the United States is seeking to reduce tensions through dialogue with the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. President Biden has expressed his willingness to engage in dialogue without preconditions, while also intensifying cooperation with Seoul to counter intimidation maneuvers and enhance defense capacity.
As Pyongyang continues to strengthen its military capacity and prepare for potential conflict, the international community remains vigilant and hopes for peaceful resolutions to the ongoing tensions.
