Nova Iguaçu – Actions to combat the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which transmits diseases such as Dengue, Chikungunya and Zika, in Nova Iguaçu, were reinforced in all regions of the city. Teams from the Superintendency of Environmental Health Surveillance (Suvam) are working with endemic agents on the streets when visiting residential and commercial properties. In addition, the smoke car is also controlling the regions with the highest incidence of reported cases, such as Posse, Vila de Cava and Figueira.

In the first 2024 report from LIRAa (Rapid Index Survey for Aedes aegypti), the infestation incidence rate is 1.8%, which leaves the municipality in a state of alert. The ideal would be below 1%, and the maximum limit is 4%. In Nova Iguaçu, to date, there have been 451 notifications, 222 of which are confirmed and no deaths. The incidence rate is 97.34 per 100 thousand inhabitants.

Another strategy to contain the spread of the disease is to intensify the work of endemic disease agents with perifocal treatment, which consists of applying insecticides in places with a greater tendency for infestation due to the accumulation of stagnant water, such as cemeteries, junkyards and tire repair shops.

“We have a task force, uniting efforts from all agencies to, together, win this fight against the mosquito. These actions range from training health professionals to creating a strategic care plan in basic, urgent and emergency units, and the possibility of creating hydration rooms, depending on the increase and worsening of cases. But it is also important that everyone does their part, monitoring their home and eliminating any possible mosquito breeding sites, such as bottle caps, open bottles, water tanks, among others”, warns the doctor and municipal secretary of Health, Luiz Carlos Noble Cavalcanti.

Within the coping plan, groups were created to care for patients with symptoms. Groups A and B are patients considered not serious, without complications or that may develop into complications, care will be provided in basic health units. In group C, patients with alarm symptoms, care will be provided at municipal Upas. In group D, patients with severe symptoms who require hospitalization, care will be provided at the Hospital Geral de Nova Iguaçu (HGNI).

Dengue numbers in Nova Iguaçu can be accessed by the entire population through the Rede CIEVC application, which provides updated information on the city’s epidemiological data, areas with the highest incidence, information about the disease, symptoms and forms of prevention. The application is available for Android cell phones and can also be accessed via the link: cievs-nova-iguacu.glide.page.
