He was the rising star of Paralympic athletics and became a legend after lining up with the able-bodied at the London Olympics in 2012. But on February 14, 2013, Oscar Pistorius killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkam. The man was then sentenced to 15 years in prison after a long investigation and several trials. He was finally released on parole in January.
For a little over three months, the former Paralympic athlete has been free and trying to rebuild his life, far from fame.

Volunteer at a church
When he was released from prison, Oscar Pistorius moved in with his uncle in Waterkloof near Pretoria. According to the New York Post, he contacted members of the Paralympic committee to work with them but was quickly rejected. “He is too toxic to work with now,” says a source to the American media.

The former athlete therefore decided to volunteer in a church to fill his days. Several followers commented on his behavior to the New York Post, saying that Pistorius would be a shadow of his former self. “He is absolutely not friendly. Antisocial even. I don’t think I saw him smile once. Pistorius is no longer the man we knew” declared a parishioner.
Oscar Pistorius will remain on parole until 2029. He is constantly monitored and cannot contact his victim’s family. He is also not allowed to use social media or give interviews. Finally, he is regularly screened for alcohol and drugs.
