And here is the program!: Paléo 2024 gives up on rock

The 2024 edition, presented Tuesday in Nyon (VD), is focused on rap and French song. Discover the artists present from July 23 to 28.

If Paléo has graced us with Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kiss or even Iron Maiden in recent years, guitars no longer create an event on the Asse. Worse. Only six artists out of the hundred present throughout the festival are labeled “rock”. All scheduled for Tuesday July 23, with Patti Smith in quartet formation and the duo Royal Blood. For the rest, the Nyon festival has decided to focus (once again) on rap and hip-hop, with a hint of pop.

One of the biggest hits is Booba, scheduled for Saturday July 27. The Duke of Boulogne, who has encountered some legal problems, is rare on stage and has just released his new record, “Ad vitam æternam”, in February. The organizers are also hitting hard with the arrival of the French Gazo & Tiakola on Friday. This is the only date in Switzerland for this duo which was formed for the duration of an album. A project which was certified gold in less than a month in France, an achievement in the rap world. We also note the presence of PLK (Thursday), Luidji (Thursday) and Yvnnis (Saturday). In a more popular register, we find Gims (Sunday) as well as IAM (Friday). The Marseille group will set foot on the Asse plain for the fifth time.

International artists without much surprise

For international stars, Sean Paul will dance to the hits of the 2000s “Temperature” and “Get Busy” (Tuesday). We are curious to discover the Nigerian Burna Boy (Tuesday), who mixes afrobeat, dancehall and reggae. The surprise is less with Sam Smith and Nile Rodgers & Chic (Wednesday), regulars at Montreux Jazz. Our favorite goes to the Norwegian Aurora (Wednesday). Its synthesized pop will take you on a journey. You may recognize her voice, as she was featured in the song “Into the Unknown” in “Frozen 2.”

French song will have more headliners than in 2023. Véronique Sanson (Friday) will be present with her farewell tour. The same day, Olivia Ruiz will present her new tracks, eight years after the release of her last album. There will also be Calogero (Thursday), Hoshi (Thursday), Christophe Maé (Sunday), Eddy de Pretto (Wednesday) and Zaho de Sagazan (Wednesday). The latter had already set the Club Tent ablaze a year ago and this time comes to ignite the Véga, with six Victoires de la Musique in its pocket. The festival will end with the tangy pop of Mika, who is touring for the first time with a record in the language of Molière.

A unique show by the two Vincents

On the Swiss side, we are delighted to see the pop sensation of the moment, the Valaisan Nuit Incolore (Thursday). He won the NRJ Music Award for French-speaking revelation of the year and his track “Dépassé” has more than 50 million streams on Spotify. A real hit! Geneva’s Lakna (Saturday) will charm you with her afro pop. TV5 Monde named her a “rising star of Swiss r’n’b” in 2022. And what would a Paléo be without Vincent Kucholl and Vincent Veillon? After 2015 and 2019, the two RTS troublemakers will offer a new show entitled “52′ en musique”. They will be accompanied in particular by Yann Marguet, Thomas Wiesel and Alexandre Kominek.

Electro has been even more present at the Paléo since the inauguration of the Belleville stage in 2022. We are delighted to see The Blaze at the festival for the second time (Saturday). Paul Kalkbrenner (Tuesday), as well as Vladimir Cauchemar (Thursday) and Major Lazer Soundsystem (Saturday) complete the headliners. At the World Village, which will be in the colors of the Balkans, don’t miss the great composer Goran Bregović (Sunday) and the singer Marina Satti (Thursday). The one nicknamed the Greek Rosalía is representing her country at Eurovision next May against Nemo.
