Heroin, cocaine and alcohol: Pete Doherty attracted attention for years with his excessive lifestyle. The rock musician loved parties, was in a relationship with top model Kate Moss from 2005 to 2007 and celebrated wild nights with the late soul legend Amy Winehouse.

Because of his drug addiction, the musician repeatedly came into conflict with the law, which is why he was sentenced to 14 weeks in prison in 2008. Due to his almost 20-year history of consumerism, he was plagued by suicidal fantasies until he was admitted to a Thai rehab clinic in 2015.

The reason for his change of heart may also have been Katia de Vidas, who played in his backing band The Puta Madres and to whom he got engaged in September 2021. Since then, he says he has devoted himself to family life and gradually said goodbye to his excessive lifestyle. According to his own statements, his wife would not have wanted to have a child with him if he had not gotten clean.

“There are no fat junkies”

A lot has also changed physically for the musician. He told the British newspaper “The Guardian” in an interview in 2019: “As long as I’m this fat, everyone is calm. Only when I get thin again will there be cause for concern. There are no fat junkies.”

In February 2024, Pete Doherty revealed in an interview with the Guardian that he had type 2 diabetes. Despite the diagnosis, he lacks the discipline to “take action against the cholesterol.” Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease in which blood sugar levels are elevated. The cause is a deficiency of the metabolic hormone insulin, for which there are various reasons. In addition to hereditary predispositions, age and lifestyle play a role here. Doherty wants to try to live as healthily as possible for his family in the future.

Pete Doherty lives with his wife in Normandy, France and has discovered art for himself. He has his own studio and also travels to Germany for some of his exhibitions. The couple had a daughter in 2023, who goes by the name Billie-May. Pete Doherty is said to have two children from previous relationships.

Despite married life and children, Pete Doherty has remained a bit of a rock star. At his art exhibitions, the 42-year-old shows pictures he has made, some of which he made while he was suffering from addiction. He painted some of them with his own blood.

However, in an interview with the editorial network Germany, he revealed that he no longer wants to create works of art with blood in the future. Accordingly, Doherty had an encounter with a priest who made him “fear of God”. The priest’s words were like a “threat” to him that stuck with him for many years. Doherty has already presented his art in Germany: his exhibition was in 2023 «Beyond Fame» can be seen in the Düsseldorf NRW Forum.
