[NTDTV, Beijing time, February 25, 2022]On February 24, Kiev, the capital of Ukraine with a population of 3 million, was in a panic amid the war. The highway was jammed with vehicles, and people trying to flee fear shelling as they get trapped in their cars. Train stations and bus stations were also crowded with people with luggage, many with anxious expressions on their faces.
The UN refugee agency estimated that about 100,000 Ukrainians had fled their homes and poured into countries including Romania, Moldova, Poland and Hungary, Reuters reported.
The U.S. ambassador to the United Nations has warned that Russia’s incursion in Ukraine could create one of the largest refugee crises facing the world today, displacing five million Ukrainians.
In the middle of the night on the 24th, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told the people through video that the Russian army had invaded Kiev. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and abide by the curfew.
“Today, we lost 137 heroes, citizens, soldiers and civilians,” he said bitterly. Another 316 were injured.
