Poland was favorable to the presence of NATO troops in Ukraine: “It is not an unthinkable scenario”

Poland was favorable to the presence of NATO troops in Ukraine: “It is not an unthinkable scenario.”

Polish Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski assured that the idea of sending NATO troops to Ukraine “is not unthinkable” and, on the contrary, he thanked French President Emmanuel Macron for not closing this possibility.

Weeks ago, Macron himself commented on the possible outcomes of the war that Russia launched more than two years ago and said that “the presence of Alliance soldiers in Kyiv is not ruled out.” His comments generated great discomfort among members of the bloc, who have supported the sending of weapons and money to Volodimir Zelensky’s nation but who oppose the deployment of their officers on the ground.

Among them was the Prime Minister of Poland, Donald Tusk, who quickly clarified that his country “does not plan to send its troops to Ukrainian territory.”

NATO itself sought to distance itself from the statements of the Elysee Palace, which then tried to justify itself by mentioning that it was referring to the fact that a Russian victory cannot be allowed. Thus, sources from the bloc insisted that “NATO and its allies are providing unprecedented military support to Ukraine – we have done so since 2014 and intensified it after the large-scale invasion of Russia – but there are no plans for combat troops of NATO on the ground in Ukraine.”

“Ukraine has the right to self-defense and we have the right to support them. That is what NATO allies are doing and will continue to do,” she concluded.

However, this Friday, Sikorski surprised with his statements although he tried to tone down the tone to avoid a scandal. “It’s about Putin being afraid, not about us being afraid of Putin,” he explained.

As expected, the Kremlin spoke out against this proposal and warned that if NATO decides to move forward in this direction, it would lead to an inevitable direct confrontation with, even, nuclear threats around the world. The countries of the Alliance must “assess” whether the conflict with Russia “corresponds to their interests and the interests of their people,” added presidential spokesman Dmitri Peskov.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Army commented this Saturday that Russian troops are increasing pressure on their positions in the east of the country, in an attempt to weaken them and gain more territory.

“It is obvious that the enemy’s next task will be to reach the town of Chasiv Yar. “They are trying to assault, carry out frontal attacks and surround the town,” he concluded.

For their part, soldiers deployed on the eastern bank of the Dnieper, in Kherson, maintain their positions and try to advance on the southern front.

“In the area of operations of the Southern Defense Forces, daily counterbattery combats do not stop. “Our soldiers maintain their positions and take measures to reinforce and expand the bridgehead on the left bank of the Dnieper,” reads a statement.
