City council politicians from SV and MDG react strongly to the large fireworks that were set off in the center of Oslo late on Friday evening.

– The fact that we have a set of regulations for fireworks which in practice gives a right to light up as many as you like, as long as you don’t set the city on fire, is completely distasteful, writes city council politician Ola Wolff Elvevold (SV) on social media according to Aftenposten.

– Troubles half the town

The fireworks prompted many to call the police to report loud bangs. It could be heard from a great distance, and was fired as part of the birthday party for Christian Ringnes.

Oslo already asked for a total ban on fireworks two years ago. But did not receive a response from the Minister of Justice

MDG politician Eivind Trædal has also reacted to the fireworks.

– I think that bothering half the city with fireworks in the middle of the night, including many people with trauma from war or terror, is a bad way to celebrate a birthday. Not fun for animals and birds either, he writes.

North Star Fireworks AS was responsible for the launch, which was done from two vessels and one barge in the harbor basin.

The fireworks were approved in advance. The company does not wish to comment on the matter to Aftenposten.
