Procedures for Tasbih Prayer, Afdhal Performed in the Month of Sha’ban

Then how to perform the tasbih prayer? Ibnu Hajar Al-Haitami in his book Al-Minhâjul Qawîm wrote:

And the Tasbih prayer, which is four rak’ahs, saying in each rak’ah after Al-Fatihah and the surah: Glory be to Allah, praise be to Allah, there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest. Raising it from the second prostration in every ten is seventy-five times in every rak’ah

It means: “and (including the sunnah prayer) is the tasbih prayer, which is a four-rak’at prayer where in each rak’at after reciting Surah Al-Fatihah and other surahs, read the sentence subhânallah wal hamdu lillâh wa lâ ilâha illallâhu wallâhu akbar—in the book of Ihya added wa lâ haulâ wa lâ quwwata illâ billâh—a total of 15 times, and at each ruku’, i’tidal, prostration, sitting between two prostrations, and sitting after the second prostration each read (the sentence) 10 times. So that all amounts to 75 times in each rak’at.” (Ibn Hajar Al-Haitami, Al-Minhâjul Qawîm, Beirut: Darul Fikr, tt., p. 203)

From Ibn Hajar’s explanation above, it can be concluded that the procedure for performing the tasbih prayer is as follows:

1. Basically, the procedures for performing the sunnah prayer of tasbih are not much different from the procedures for performing other prayers, both in terms and conditions. It’s just that in the tasbih prayer there is an additional reading of a certain number of thayibah sentences.

2. After reading Al-Fatihah and other letters, before bowing down, first read the sentence subhânallâh wal hamdu lillâh wa lâ ilâha illallâhu wallâhu akbar (hereinafter this sentence is called tasbih) 15 times. After that, do bowing.

3. When bowing before getting up for i’tidal, first read the tasbih 10 times. After that, just wake up and sleep.

4. At the time of i’tidal before going down to prostrate first read the tasbih 10 times, then prostrate.

5. During the first prostration before getting up, read the tasbih 10 times, then get up to sit.

6. When sitting between two prostrations before performing the second prostration read the tasbih 10 times, only then perform the second prostration.

7. During the second prostration before getting up, read the tasbih 10 times.

8. After the second prostration, do not immediately get up to stand to start the second rak’ah, but first sit down to recite the tasbih 10 times. After that, get up and stand again to start the second rak’ah.

Thus, in one rak’ah the tasbih has been recited 75 times. For the second rakaat, the procedure for performing the prayer and the number of recitations of the tasbih are the same as the first rakaat, only in the second rakaat after reciting tashahhud before the salam, first read the tasbih 10 times, then recite the salam as usual as the end of the prayer.
