Jakarta –
Demi U-23 Indonesian National Team, PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB) convey the request to PSSI regarding the easing of the rules for League 1 clubs which are required to play U-23 players.
This proposal emerged after PT LIB as the operator of the Liga 1 competition invited all owners or managers of BRI Liga 1 clubs to attend the Focus Group Discussion (FGD). One of the important points of discussion on the FGD agenda was regarding proposals related to club support for calling up U-23 players to join the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup squad.
Currently there is a polemic about the reluctance of clubs to release players if there is a call from the U-23 National Team. Garuda Muda will appear in the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup in Qatar on April 15 – May 3.

The results of one of the FGD discussions were followed up LIB by informing him PSSI via letter numbered 236/LIB-COR/II/2024. The letter explains the proposed relaxation of the implementation of the use of U-23 players in the 2023/2024 BRI Liga 1 competition.
PT LIB requested an amendment to article 22 paragraph (3) of the 2023/24 BRI Liga 1 competition regulations, regarding the obligation to play at least 1 (one) Indonesian citizen (WNI) U-23 player in starting IX for 45 minutes.
“For this reason, we ask for relaxation regarding the implementation of these regulations to be abolished, while the consideration is as a form of support for the U-23 National Team which is competing in the 2023 Asian Cup in April 2024 and is valid from its publication until the end of the BRI Liga 1 – 2023/24 competition ,” read the letter, in a PT LIB release.
President director PT LIB Ferry Paulus explained that the point of the letter was as a form of finding the best solution in the midst of the 2023/2024 Liga 1 competition as well as providing support for U-23 Indonesian National Team who will compete in the 2023 Asian Cup.
“In principle, we always try to find the most ideal conditions. How can the essence of the 2023/2024 BRI Liga 1 competition continue to run optimally and support for the U-23 national team will also continue,” said Ferry Paulus.
PT LIB hopes that the relaxation of the rules for playing U-23 players can make League 1 clubs willing to provide support by releasing U-23 players who are called up to defend U-23 Indonesian National Team in the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup.
