Sahur is an activity that Muslims do before fasting from dawn to sunset. Sahur is done early in the morning before dawn.

One of the purposes of sahur is to avoid being hungry or thirsty while fasting. During sahur, Muslims also recite fasting intentions or Ramadan fasting prayers. Here’s the reading fasting prayer Ramadan 1 month.

What is Sahur?

According to the Indonesian Ministry of Religion (Kemenag) website, the law on sahur is sunnah. In a hadith narrated by Anas bin Malik, it is explained that Rasulullah SAW said: “Sahur you, because indeed in sahur there is blessing.” (Muttafaqun ‘alaih)

Ramadan fasting prayer

Ramadan fasting intentions or prayers are read while doing sahur. Reported by the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) website, according to the Syafi’i School, the intention to fast must be done every day on the eve of Ramadan. Sheikh Sulaiman Al-Bujairimi in his work, Hasyiyatul Iqna’, explains as follows:

It is required to fast during Ramadan or other days, such as making up for it or vowing to spend the night, which is making the intention at night, according to what the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: Whoever does not make the intention overnight before dawn, there is no fast for him. It is necessary to spend the night for each day due to the apparent meaning of the news

“It is required to make an intention at night for obligatory fasts such as Ramadan fasting, qadha fasting, or nadzar fasting. This is based on the hadith of the Prophet SAW, ‘Whoever does not make an intention at night before dawn, then there is no fasting for him.’ Therefore, it is necessary to intend to fast every day (in the month of Ramadan) if you see the redaction of the Zahir hadith.” (Sulaiman Al-Bujairimi, Hashiyatul Iqna’, vol. 2).

Then, as is the opinion of the Syafii School, we must get used to always intending to fast every night of the month of Ramadan. Usually this is done after every Tarawih prayer or when eating sahur.

However, according to the Maliki School of thought, it is enough for us to intend to fast for a whole month on the first night of Ramadan. So, there is no need to renew your intentions every day, because fasting in Ramadan is a single act of worship. (Yusuf Al-Qaradlawi, Fiqh al-Shiyam, p. 84)

Here is the recitation of Ramadan fasting intentions or prayers.

I intend to fast tomorrow in order to fulfill the obligatory month of Ramadan this year for God Almighty.

Nawaitu shauma ghadin ‘an ada’i fardhi syahri Ramadhana hadzihis sanati lillahi ta’ala.

It means: I intend to fast tomorrow to fulfill the obligation of fasting in the month of Ramadan this year, for the sake of Allah Ta’ala.

As for the reading Ramadan fasting prayer for a whole month is as follows.

I intended to fast the entire month of Ramadan this year as an obligation for God Almighty.

Nawaitu shauma jami’i syahri ramadhani hadzihis sanati fardhan lillahi ta’ala.
