Cuban Man Arrested for Murder of Wife in Eastern Province of Holguín

The Cuban man who murdered his wife earlier this year in the eastern province of Holguín has been arrested after being handed over by his own relatives. The official page “Hunter-Cazado” confirmed the news and indicated that the events occurred in Guaro, Mayarí.

Rafael Antonio Arenado Figueredo, who in recent days murdered his wife Aliuska Carmenate Torres in a fit of jealousy, was handed over to the authorities by his family, according to the note from the official page. The page also denied the information that had emerged suggesting that Figueredo had committed suicide after committing the crime.

The independent platform Yo SíTeCreo in Cuba confirmed this and another case of femicide in Cuba and reiterated the need to create specialized care systems for people affected by gender violence.

The observatory confirmed the loss of teacher Aliuska Carmenate Torres, 40 years old, at the hands of her partner, in Mayarí, Holguín on January 14. “Citizen support is requested to determine the place where the terrible crime occurred,” the observatory noted.

“Our condolences go to the two daughters, teenagers or very young, who survive Aliuska. These facts were published by the media, citizens, and activists, and verified with community sources through the joint efforts of OGAT and YSTCC,” they indicated.

The arrest of Figueredo and the confirmation of the femicide have drawn attention to the issue of gender violence in Cuba and the need for specialized care systems to address the impact of such violence.
