PBNU invites Muslims to forgive the excited statement by Indonesian Christian figures, Pastor Gilbert Lumoindong, whose video went viral on social media. PBNU said Pastor Gilbert has explained that he did not mean to insult Islam.

Nevertheless, Gus Fahrur appealed to religious teachings not to be used as a joke. Statements must be conveyed more carefully so as not to offend other religions.

“Even though it is not appropriate for religious ritual teachings to be made into jokes, because they are very sensitive in public spaces. In the future, we need to be more careful in choosing material for jokes so as not to offend the feelings of adherents of other religions,” added Gus Fahrur.

Gus Fahrur invited all parties to maintain religious harmony in Indonesia. He also talked about the character of Muslims who are always taught to forgive.

“We Muslims are taught to forgive easily and be able to restrain our emotions. Let’s maintain the harmony of religious harmony in Indonesia,” he said.

Previously, Pastor Gilbert met with the 10th and 12th Vice Presidents of the Republic of Indonesia and Chairman of the Indonesian Mosque Council (DMI) Jusuf Kalla (JK) after the video went viral. He provided clarification and apology.
