Weathers fell asleep peacefully on Thursday, his manager Matt Luber said Variety Friday.
Weathers is best known for his role in the first four “Rocky” films, playing boxer Apollo Creed, who was at first a rival of Sylvester Stallone’s iconic character, but eventually became a companion and collaborator.
More recently, Weathers has starred in the Disney+ series “The Mandalorian”, which is set in the Star Wars universe. Weathers appeared in all three seasons of the series.
In addition, he has been seen in the series “Arrested Development”, where he plays a fictionalized version of himself. He has also had roles in the films “Predator” and Happy Gilmore”.
Weathers also has a past in sports. After playing four years of college football for San Diego State University, he spent one season with the Oakland Raiders of the NFL in 1970.
