Romania, fire in hospital in a Covid ward: nine victims

The origin of the flames is not yet known. About 100 people were evacuated from the facility, where firefighters completed their firefighting operations. Two months later in Piatra Neamt, in the north east of the country, another 15 patients died in the fire in the ward where they were hospitalized.

The Romanian president Klaus Iohannis he said he was “horrified” by the tragedy: “The Romanian state has failed in its fundamental mission of protecting its citizens,” he said. “It is a terrible new drama that confirms the poor infrastructure of the Romanian health system, an obsolete system, severely tested and put under unimaginable pressure since the fourth wave of the Covid-19 pandemic”, said Iohannis, offering condolences to bereaved families. and wishing “a lot of strength to be able to face these extremely painful moments”.
